Windows 7 Wont Update On Laptop

I Have apparently 12 important updates on my Windows 7 laptop, so I pressed the appropriate button and they seem to be loading, green line etc, then they fail. Help please... I am not technical so laymens terms please. tia.. Oh, and why, when I misspell something, does the second word always change itself to a capital letter on my ipad? (see first two words here). Thanks again!!

Empty out Windows/softwaredistribution/downloads folder completely and then click search for updates to restart it - if it fails again select one at a time till you find the one that fails and then hide it.
