about it, but not sure if I need to be. In a post from yesterday some of the answers gave the impression that it's not well regarded? I've had a Yahoo email as my main address for 12+ years now without any problems..(as far as I can tell)

Any thoughts/advice would be most welcome.
Many thanks

I think every such provider, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail &c has its detractors.

well it's known not to be that great when it comes to security and there's a lot of spam on it.....
Generally it's OK but there have been a fair few outages recently.
It's fine, Bath....except when they decide to improve it.....then it goes boobs up til they unimprove it.....☺

p.s.......after re-reading my query,.....please do not assume the question mark after my 2nd sentence indicates an upward inflection were I actually speaking,...lol ;)
I find that yahoo e/mail is prone to freezing. So although I was given automatically an account, when some years back I opted for BT Broadband, I avoid using it.

Question Author
Hans,...thanks, that's the post which made me question it.
DTC....could you be more specific re "security" please?
Blackadder....I can honestly say I've only encountered a couple of outages, ever.
Gness...yep, I agree with you re "improvements"! I clung on to the Classic version for as long as I possibly could :)

account detail copying etc - my brother in law and a few others were picked off by fraudulent behaviour....also most of the bank scams etc are through yahoo....
Question Author
@DT.....sorry to appear thick (which of course I'm not...*ahem*..I did in fact receive a BA in Technology on here the other day) :) but what is "account detail copying" + what could that mean re my security?

I think every such provider, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail &c has its detractors.
access to picking up your banking or credit card details, that sort of thing.

I use a small server out of the States, spam free and they have a very good service for elimination of spam, also no ads, but those you can stop by using a program like Adbloc. Makes for a better AB too, though of course the Ed hates us using it.
Question Author
I think you're right Blackadder,....rather like free anti-virus systems...
On a similar topic I , too, was a bit concerned about the negative comments made about Google Chrome recently. I have used it for three years with no problems whatsoever, not a single ad or pop-up.
Question Author
@DT.....I've had "that which should never be mentioned on here" for years now,....wouldn't be without it :)
lol - shhhhhhh
No problems here - I did have issues with IE clashing with mcaffee early on, changed out of that to another and no issues but then it started getting very slow with AB. Switched to Chrome and voilà - Firefox as back up.
Question Author
BlackA....it's not Chrome (which I love, incidentally) stopping your ads appearing though, shirley?

DT....I hate IE with a passion.
I have only been online for 6 years. At first I used IE which was a nightmare, especially with AB. Moved to Firefox - a vast improvement then, on recommendation from someone on this site to Chrome. I find Chrome faster, otherwise I have no problems with Firefox.
When you install Chrome you have the option of installing two add-ons which cannot be named.
Yahoo is a bit clunky and seems to have an old fashioned feel about it.

It's a juicy takeover target - Microsoft had a go, and just now there seems to be a big buyer in the market.

Perhaps a new owner would give it a shake up?

@Blackadder.....Are you saying that Chrome is faster than Firefox.

Incidentally, I think the following thread may have given you cause for concern:-
