Along the top of the phone there's an icon which looks like a square handbag with an arrow pointing downwards inside it, can anyone tell me what it means please? Tia

does it look like an envelope? if so its your email notification. swipe the top of the screen down, it will take onto a page that will tell you what it is. it also lists any updates that need doing and some quick setting at the top

Yes, mcfluff is right. Swipe it downwards and it's telling you that you have updates that you can install easily.
