Switched on about an hour ago and Firefox did an automatic update to version 12. Since then practically every site 'times out' with The connection was reset message.

Is it possible to revert to previous version of Firefox - and would that cure the problem?

Most problems with FF can be resolved by re-installing. You do not have to remove your existing version.
Not sure if you can revert to an earlier version.
