Im a bit confused, i recently rang my sister and when she picked up the phone she was surprised that is was me as it said on her call minder "ID withheld", i have sinced asked other family and friends if this is the case when i phone them, and it is. Can anyone enlighten me on what could have happened. Is it my phone or my phone provider. I still have the call minder on my phone, the callers name and number comes up as normal it's just when I call them

It's a setting on your phone.

ummmm, when i go into settings, what am i looking for?
If its a landline it's your providers settings not yours

are you using your mobile?
if it's yr mobile you'll find it in your call settings
Sounds like somewhere along the line something set the data to say that the calling number must not be divulged to the end user. Some kind of fault I'd guess. That said it may well be that a second call routed through the network differently might not have the same error ? At least the fault is on the safe side. It'd be worse if a caller specified 'withhold', and it wasn't.
Go to settings on your phone.

Mines a Nokia and it's settings - call settings - send my caller id.
I have relatives who have their land line with Talk Talk and their number never shows up as being her on my caller id.
Are you ex-directory?

Change your supplier
If you dial 1470 before the telephone number this will lift the "ID withheld " For a quick fix. Dialling 141 will withhold caller ID.

Thanks KJN. Wiskeryron, i am on a 18 month contract with them. TalkTalk is fantastic when it works but any problems you have to go through an Indian Call centre to sort anything out, they cannot understand you and you cannot understand them. All complaints about TalkTalk are to do with Customer Services.
Go onto the Talktalk website, select 'my account' and log in.

You will need to enter your email address and password.

Click on 'Manage your Boosts'

Under 'Privacy Features' you will probably find 'Withhold Number' is ticked.
If so untick it and click on 'Update'
We are ex-directory and this has happened a couple of times when we make phone calls. Depends on the setting of the phone of the person you are calling.
no it doesnt jamesnan, its your own settings
Nothing to do with being ex directory either
