I (HE!) lost my car keys at the weekend. Just phoned the hotel we stayed at and they've been handed in. She said to email my name, address, room number and card details so they can post them to me.

Just about to send the email when I realised I'm just about to send my card details by email to a complete stranger.

Then it got me thinking....I've paid for things over the phone before. What's stopping the person taking the details and using them....besides the honesty aspect.

McFluff - fancy going to pick up my car keys?????

Nothing at all. I would never give my card details out over the phone.
If you lost the car keys at the hotel......how did you get back?
Why would they need your credit card details to post your keys back? Surely, the fact that you knew the keys were there and could give the room number, name and address would be sufficient?
why on earth do they need your car details, lol depends where it is?

To cover postage apparently...
Card details.................or CAR details ? :o)
You went by car but came home by train?

Well McMouse....I didn't actually book the hotel. Someone is isn't very flush did...
I suppose they want the card details to verify who you are from the booking. I wouldn`t send them by email either as it`s not secure. If they insisted I would just give them the last 4 numbers.
Did you not mishear? Did they in fact not say car details instead of card details?
Send them a cheque

Lol...no. We left in a rush because he couldn't find his door key and we had a taxi waiting outside. So I grabbed my car keys which also had my door key. I left the door key in the shop so my son could get it when he got home. Gave the car keys to OH to look after...
I have given my card details over the phone on several occasions but I would like to think that they just enter it into their card machine rather than writing it down. Luckily I have never been the victim of ID fraud (just hope I'm not jinxing myself now!).

Sending them a cheque would take at least a week and the car was suppose to go in for MOT yesterday..!

I haven't sent my card details. I said when she knew the cost could she ring me back. I think I'll use a different card.

As would most people I assume, and I'm sure that in 99.9% of cases they do but with more and more people finding it hard to make ends meet, the temptation to make a note of your details will be strong in some people.
so where is the car now?
