Is 800 x 600 still the standard screen display? I'm asking because I'm trying to verify if this is still a standard to understand how people will see my website.

Hope that makes sense to everyone.

Thanks.

Good lord... no, not for years!

1024*768 is more like it.
I code mine for 800x600 for the old timers but not many use this nowadays.
Difficult to be definitive but I would not think many displays are around at 800x600. Probably 1024x768 is the minimum for most people now.
You are better off working in percentages (or relative) sizes than absolute (or pixel) sizes as well, then the page should scale to fit different screen resolutions far better.
True Chuck although this can spread the page out a bit too far if you want images to be grouped fairly close together. I try to use percentages where I can. If not, 800x600 for the dinosaurs.
This should be interesting.

http://www.w3schools..../browsers_display.asp

as of Jan 2010 1% of hits on the W3Schools page was from a browser with a 800*600 resolution, 20% at 1024*768 and 76% at a higher resolution.
I'd hazard a guess at 1280x1024 for 4:3 desktops is the common resolution. Of course, with notebooks being evermore popular, these's going to be all those odd widescreen resolutions too.
I use 1280 x 1024.
I dont think you should code to any one screen size.

Even if someone uses 800x600 they may well change the size of the browser window to be only part of that.

Your web pages should be able to cope with a small netbook, right up to a 24" widescreen monitor and beyond.
