For the past few days my screen is scrolling up and down and I'm finding it difficult to stop it on the item I want it to. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I didn't respond yesterday, thank you for your help, I'm still not sure what I'm doing, I have two ongoing probs at the mo, IKFA about laptops in general, but thank you for the insight of FURBAR I reckon that must be right. Chuck I will attempt a quick look at the m'f (HP) website, only I suspect it may become a bit technical.
Post the model number of the laptop and which operating system and I'll get you the link to the correct driver file AYG.

I suppose you were expecting this but....................where do I find the model number? and what do you mean operating system. Sorry.
Model number will be HP<something> maybe a sticker at the bottom of the screen but almost certainly on the base of the lappy somewhere..

OS = Vista / XP / Windows 7 / etc etc
On most HPs the model number will be somewhere around the edge of the screen (if not on a sticker underneath)

By what operating system I meant what version of windows (XP, Vista or Windows 7)
LOL.... Snap :)
:-)) ... wasn't sure if you were about.
Gran ..
R-Click My Computer .. and in Properties .. What it says below System. eg .. Windows XP Professional SP3.
Laptop: Look for sticker underneath or on ID plate. Should have model name, etc.

HP 4315 Windows Vista is that all right?
Don't think that's the correct model number (unless you bought it in america) the only UK HP with that number is a printer.
Question Author
It probably was the printer, sorry, I have HP 6000 or G6092GA on the bottom of the lappy.
if it looks like this

http://www.core1.co.uk/img1/1.jpg

then this is the touchpad driver, download and then double click the file to install it.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp
37065.exe
And then we start on how to disable the scroll feature... any one got a windows computer with the synaptics touchpad drivers installed to go through it?

If not I'll check at work tomorrow and post details.
Hmmm, you will need to copy and paste the link above into the address bar on your browser to download the driver as it's not clickable.
Question Author
thank you chuck, atm the scroll feature is behaving but it does become 'wild' The link you provided looks very similar to mine. The second link doesn't work, but I'll look out for you later. Thanks again.
Chuck, the Synaptics options appear in the Mouse settings in the control panel, I can talk gran through it step-by-step from my HP lappy if necessary.
Please go ahead, Naz it's only the scroll option that needs to be disabled. I've not got a windows computer here at home with a synaptics touchpad to go through it step by step (the only windows laptop I have has a alps touchpad, everything else is Linux)

If I remember correctly it should be in the mouse options somewhere on the far right tab.

CHUCK/ NAZ. I've not been able to log on, illness in the family, Mrask has man flu, and my daughter is ill too, Also visiting an 80 yr old who is not good either. I can't be certain that I won't be called away at an awkward moment. Sorry to have left you in the lurch. As I mentioned earlier the scrolling has settled down for nowl
I'll be away for a couple of weeks in the New Year. Please don't abandon me. I am grateful for your help so far.
While it's settled down probably best to leave well alone :)

If it rears it's head again just shout when you're back and we'll start again :)

hope the family feels better soon and have a good couple of weeks away.
No worries ... bump this when you're ready.

Mr. Ask has man-flu? Hope he's well insured? :-))
