Problem saving pictures from the Internet

I don't seem to be able to save pictures anymore.

Was trying to save some from the internet generally and have just been trying to save some of my own from Facebook for a slideshow.

It opens the "Save as" box and lets me select a folder then just crashes and won't let it actually save. The whole internet tab freezes and then takes me ages to get rid of it.

Does anyone have any idea what has gone wrong and how can fix it?

Hi Jem

First, try simply restarting your computer. (It frequently fixes problems like yours).

If that doesn't work, we need to know which browser you're using. If it's Internet Explorer, and you insist upon sticking with it (WHY? WHY? WHY?), then all I can suggest is checking the Microsoft website to ensure that you've got the latest version (in the hope that update IE will fix the problem).

If you're not already using Firefox, it would probably be best to switch to it:
http://www.google.co....cial&client=firefox-a
If you're already using Firefox download it again (to ensure that you've got the latest version) and then re-install it. You don't need to to uninstall Firefox first and you won't lose any bookmarks or personal settings. (Re-installing Firefox, 'on top of itself', fixes nearly every problem that can occur with it).

Thanks Chris :)

I've tried restarting and no joy there. I am still on IE. Have tried Firefox previously but couldn't get it to work but will give it another go and see if that works.

It's a bit on its last legs though this laptop bless it, it keeps overheating and shutting down, crashing and has missing keys through cat related damage! It's lasted me well though considering it's only a cheap little notebook. Just waiting to get back on my feet financially after a career change finance adjustment then I can hopefully pick up one which works properly :)
OK, slap me if I'm pointing put the obvious here....

You've not run out off hard drive space have you?

Erm....don't think so, it let me download a slideshow programme thingy earlier and been uploading photos from my camera (was having problems before that).

I will try and find out how to check.

Just had a google about the latest IE and seems I have it - Version 8?

Looks like I have 1.94GB left.
open my computer (or computer if vista) and right click on the C drive, select properties.

I downloaded Firefox but it won't open :( Think that's what it did last time so I ended up removing it for the space...hmmm...back to the drawing board...
1.94GB is not much at all, and it is time to do something about that, but, it's not low enough to be causing you problems right now.

I'd suggest you run a check disk on the drive tonight (it will take a few hours and you'll not be able to use the laptop)

when you are ready to start it open my computer, right click on C drive, select properties and then click on the tools tab. if you click on the button for error checking and put a tick in both options on the window that comes up and click OK a couple of times you should get a message telling you it can't scan now and asking if you want to scan on restart, say yes and then do a restart.

Once it started scanning just leave it alone until it's done.

Thanks Chuck, I will give it a go.

Gutted as I dowloaded my slideshow software and now can't get any photos to put in them...grrr...might have to practice with some on my hardrive!
