I have an electric plug in carbon monoxide dectector. Can anyone tell me of a reason why it will ring, other than the obvious. .Everything has been checked, but every now and again it goes off. I am wishing i hadn't bought it.

Could it be cigarette smoke setting it off?
Maybe it's defective?
Question Author
Does Cigarette smoke set if off? and if it does why not all the time
Cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide but only in tiny concentrations - your detector is probably quite sensitive, is there no way of testing/calibrating it?
Question Author
I smoke very little, if inside mostly in the kitchen. The detector is away from the kitchen by about 5 metres ish. I do not know how to test it.
If it is going off and you are positive there is no CO about then by definition it must be defective. Chcuk it out and get a new one!

Have you hoovered it out?
As Answerprancer says, could be cigarette smoke, we had a CO detector in our house, we don't smoke, but coming in the house from the pub before the smoking ban, we would set the alarm off from the CO on our clothes.
