Hi everyone. I have just moved a pc into another room and the Monitor keeps going to sleep before I can get anything on the screen. The PCU is working and whirring away but I cannot get the screen to stay on. It keeps going onto Standby mode. It clearly states MONITOR GOING TO SLEEP.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

This can be done in a number of places.

Right click on your desktop and choose Properties then Screen Saver (this is under XP, Vista may be different).

Change the Screen Saver time.

Another option is to go into Power options and change them there (you can get to the Power options from the Screen Save window above) or from the Windows Control Panel.

There you have options like Turn off monitor after 20 minutes and so on.

Try changing some of these times.
I should point out that the "screen svaer" time is different from changing the power options.

Screen Saver is when an image comes onto the screen to stop it "burnung out). This is not really the monitor going into sleep mode.

The settings you change under "power" are where the monitor, hard disks, system etc DO go into sleep mode and you can change the time of them in this window.
As far as I am aware "Monitor going to sleep" is not a message from your computer, but from your monitor itself.
This being the case, the problem would seem to be that the monitor is getting no signal, or a signal that it can't recognise.

You say this has happened since you moved the machine. It's possible that you've not correctly plugged in and tightened the securing screws for the monitor lead, or that the move has jolted the video card loose from it's seating.
