Monitor Madness.!!

Today something has gone wrong.

Normally, when I close down my Desktop Computer I end-up with an on-screen message saying that the Monitor is going to sleep and, whilst the light changes from blue to amber, I am then able to to press the power switch for a full switch-off. However it is now the case that, when I try to fully switch-off, I get an on screen message which says "Power Button Lock Out". Consequently the Monitor cannot be fully switched-off and remains in a state of 'standby' until the Comp. is re-booted.

Does this mean that the Monitor now has a faulty switch or has it received a message from the Computer to remain in a sleeping mode.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An HP monitor, by any chance?

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to unlock the power button function.

Chis....You were 100% correct. It is an HP Monitor (20") which is linked into an HP Desktop (Pavilion Slimeline). It's a really super screen.

Can't understand why the power button went into a locked mode but your advice has now put things right.

Viv wishes me to say that she thinks you are an extraordinary chap and I agree with her.

Thanks for the help which you have given us on this and previous occasions.

Best wishes Viv & Ron.
I'll second that. A mine of info all of the time.
Just a thought though. When I switch mine off I never turn the monitor off. The light goes to amber and there it remains until I switch on again.
Is that ok or am I letting the devil in?
No great problem, ILA, but you'll be adding a very small amount to your electricity bill!
Cheers Chris. Having both Scottish and Yorkshire ancestry in the bloodline I think I'll turn it off from now on.

Chris.....If you are still threaded to this one.....What about comps being left on, shall we say all day and only closed-down at night time.? I am not bothered about the electricity cost but keep closing and re-opening mine, because I feel that whilst the circuitry may accept the position there are some mechanical parts which could more readily break down.
