Help. My computer security center keeps telling me that I am infected with spyware and that I should download and install an antivirus programme that I've never heard of. I already have a programme running called Avast and it tells me that I am not infected. however, the popups still keep appearing saying that I should install this programme asap,I think this is a con and I would appreciate any advice . thank you all

Download and install Free Malwarebytes AntiMalware.
Run a complete scan.

And don't forget to click on the Updates tab and check for and download the latest updates before doing the scan

Oh, johnpol, will you never stop with the endless spamming of of this crap and expensive site?

>I am infected with spyware

This is almost certainly NOT your security centre, but something PRETENDING to be your security centre.

You have almost certainly been infected by some nasty malware or spyware.

Hopefully malwarebytes will clear it for you, but if not come back to us for futher suggestions.
Note that Avast is mainly looking for viruses.

Spyware and Malware are different from viruses and you often need other software (like malwarebytes) to search for spyware and malware.

As well as runnng Avast on a regular basis you should also run malwarebytes on a regular basis.

Thank you all for your answers, you have all been extremely helpfull. I will certainly run the malware programme and hopefully the problem will be solved. Thanks again.s.o.g.
download the anti spyware and anti malware software from the internet and scan the computer in safe mode.

installed the only one anti virus software in the computer . remove all the other anti virus software from the computer . because more than one anti virus software will decrease the performance of the computer.

so use the AVG anti virus software or the AVAST anti virus software in the computer.

update the anti virus software and scan the computer .delete all the detected threats from the computer.

delete temp , prefetch files from the computer these are unwanted files so delete it.

download the anti malware from the internet and scan the computer in safe mode.

before scanning the create a restore point and take the back up of the registry .

You need to scan your computer with malware byte, and if it does not work try scan your computer with superantispyware and last do scan with smithfraudfix to fix your issue but remember create restore point before scanning your computer and should be updated the software.
