Something weird has happened to my screen and everything is huge!
I have tried changing the screen resolution but it hasn't helped much. (I have also tried turning it off and on again which is my usual remedy!)
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

Have you tried text size in view at the top of page?
Question Author
Not too sure what you mean trish. Can you explain a bit more please?
Ta
Unless You`re on vista, you should have file -edit- view favourites- tools- help, near the top left hand side.
if you have, click on view, then on text size.
I`m on windows xp, explorer 7.
Question Author
Sorry trish but I am a bit of an idiot when it comes to some types of computer problems. I dont have vista but what page should I be looking for that has file, edit, view etc? A web page? Or microsoft word?
Thanks for your help btw.
hi Shivvy

click on to desktop, right click, then select properties,
select 'Appearance' tab at the top.
then at the bottom, change font size to normal.
then click apply.
Question Author
Hi WhiteBear. I have checked this and the font size is already set at normal. I found a text size option under 'page' options on the explorer page that I have open but it only changes the size within the window and not the enlarged pages, icons etc.
It is everything that has gone large ie the icons on the desktop etc.
shivvy, are you on safemode??

sounds like youre on safe mode, cos all the icons r enlarged when u r on that
Question Author
Ah so what is safe mode then and more importantly how do I change it?
It is driving me completely mad - grrr.
shivvy, do you sign out of your computer the proper way or do u just turn off your computer from the button?

when you log on.. do u get a black screen asking you to select one of the three options.
1.safe mode
2.*not sure what the second one says*
3. normal?
Question Author
i don't think I am asked those questions when i restart whitebear.
When i shut it down i use the start-turnoffcomputer option.
hmm sounds like you r doing it the right way.

..
Question Author
I definately dont just switch it off at the button.

This happened once before and I can't remember what I did to get it back to normal. It is driving me mad.
Question Author
It takes ages to scroll down a page. There is only enough room for aprox 4 open pages along the bottom toolbar.
Plus, I have to sit about 6 ft away from the screen!

Hopefully someone will come up with an answer soon.
you've pressed the magnify button on your keyboard for people with vision problems that's all, it;s alt and something or ctrl and something, buenchico knows i think.
oh it's ctrl and the + key at the same time
Question Author
Oh blimey I might be getting close now Dot!!
Try holding down theCtrl key and then pressing the minus key.
hmm if its magnifyer then go to Start> programs > accessories > accessibility> magnifyer
and turn it off the long way, i cant remember the short cuts.

unless ur on safemode...
It sounds like your graphics/video drivers have been removed or are corrupt, check by following these steps for xp:

click start
click my computer
click view system information, near the top left
once in system properties
click on the hatdware tab
click device manager

in device manager near the top of the alphabetical list you will see display adapters

if this has a yellow exclamation mark or red question mark on the right then i am correct
Question Author
OK I have tried the ctrl and the + and - button but although it changes the size of the font on the page I am working on, it doesn't fix the overall problem of all the icons being too big and it taking too long to scroll down. (Plus it looks a bit weird and certainly not like it usually looks)

I tried the magnifier thing and the result was dramatic but not much use either unfortunately.
