I am trying to move the contents of a DVD to my hard drive. With 4 minutes remaining the CD/DVD drive suddenly goes very slow & changes to show 100 minutes remaining. A short time after that i get a message saying 'the request could not be performed because of an i/o error'.

What does this mean & how can i fix it?

An I/O error is an Input / Output error.

Basically it means the computer cannot read off the DVD.

This may be because the DVD is scratched or dirty.

I would try CAREFULLY cleaning the DVD surface.

Use a soft coth like a lens cleaner you use for glasses.

Remember a DVD reads from the INSIDE first out towards the edge so as it is at the end of the read the "dirt" is likely to be near the edge of the DVD.
