your phone shouldnt be connected via a filter
Question Author
That's not what the instructions says
I assume that you are referring to a broadband setup. The idea is that you have a filter in every socket that you use for another telecommunications device, i.e a phone. If you don't connect a filter, you can still use the phone, but can hear the broadband signal. Is it is possible that the phone in question is faulty, try plugging in another phone.

yes it is broadband and I do have filter sockets throughout and my phone is not faulty
Are you using any phone extension cables. Have you tried another phone anyway, and is your broadband working correctly?
