Limewire can slow your pc down as you are letting potentially millions of people access your files and upload them.

Limewire itself is not illegal - it is what you do with it that is. If you are only uploading and downloading non-copyright files, that is fine. Examples are songs you have composed yourself and are singing yourself.

Sharing anything that is protected by copyright is potentially illegal or a civil wrong that you could be sued for.

Also, when you download Tom Jones' Delilah through Limewire - you have no idea that it is Delilah you are getting. It could be anything - including a virus.

So, Limewire could be causing your computer to run slow, especially if you are restoring it to before Limewire was installed and find it runs okay then.
Doesn't mean you have to get rid of it though.

In Limewire's preferences, change the settings so that it doesn't start up when you start Windows, and make sure you quit it properly after you've finished with it (some apps like Limewire can hang around in the system try, bottom-right, without you noticing).
fo3nix get their before me with the limewire info :)

I have limewire installed and it doesn't slow my computer down at all, though I done it the same was as fo3nix suggests

When you setup the computer and it's nice and fast don't install everything in one big hit, install one thing use the computer for a little while until you satisfied it's all running ok then install the next thing, then you should be able to see whats slowing it down.

Also whenever you install anything look at the install options while your doing it, a lot of software will try to get you to install other things that you really don't need, for example a lot of stuff will try and make you install the google toolbar, you don't need all this rubbish and it will just slow your 'puter down. They will normally have the box ticked by default so take the tick out of the box.
