avg no longer free

from the end of may avg antivirus will no longer be free.
any suggestions as to a good free alternative please?

Where have you heard the information that AVG will no longer be free? I have just been on their website and they are still offering the free version for download and nowhere does it say they are withdrawing it.

AVG Free Edition occasionally goes through major upgrades (which can't be accommodated by the usual daily downloads). When this happens, Grisoft tries to steer users towards their full commercial products. However, the basic edition of AVG always remains free; you just need to take care to click on the correct links to find the relevant download.

You can download the latest (totally free) version of AVG (version 8.0) here:

If you're still looking for an alternative, the one most frequently recommended by ABers is Avast:

and it is free.

Just follow the links and ignore the references to the enhanced paid-for version.

It looks a little different to 7.5, but is working here fine.
