Ipod Problem

My itunes is set up to automatically sync with my ipod. Since I upgraded the software on the ipod it will not upload any of the music that I have downloaded from the itunes store. I think the software is now 1.2.3. I have tried restoring factory settings and reloading the entire itunes library but still the latest purchases are not showing on the ipod. Any suggestions? Thanks
