Use this utility to read the CD key from the registry:

The CD key is not on the disk to compare to the registry. Isn;t there a way to get the key from the disk its self?
Not that I've ever heard of. As far as I know, each disk will work with more than one key, provided that the key conforms to certain rules for the batch of disks. (For example, I have a single disk and a set of two keys, either of which will work with the disk, as I have two licences).
