You could try this

Highlight all the text (Ctrl+A) on the tool bar select FORMAT then STYLE then MODIFY then FORMAT from the drop down menu you can alter the font and margins but remermber to select apply on the final style box

thank you. it worked partly and i worged out the resr !
Firstly - make sure you have a backup

I think what you want is (in 2003 or earlier)
open the doc

select all <ctrl+A>
copy <Ctrl+c>

open a new document
(from the menu)
edit | paste special

then chose one of the two unformatted options
or whichever suits you best

with 2007 it's done from the home ribbon
editing | select | select all (far right)
copy (clipboard (far left) (or right click))
then in the new doc

clipboard | paste | paste special (far left)

phew (almost quicker to copy type is again)
When I want to unformat text I copy and paste it into notepad (supplied free with Windows)

This is a plain text editor so will remove ALL formatting and you just finish up with the text.
