Outlook Express /Virgin.net problem

One message persistently refuses to download despite waiting and waiting. Restarting the computer merely puts me in the same position time after time.
How can I get rid of the offending message so as the others can be allowed to arrive?

Access your email account via webmail and delete the offending email from there. You can of course view and copy the email before deletion.
