Microsoft Outlook problem

For the last few days in Outlook, when I am trying to type a message, the words I am typing are taking an age to appear on the screen, then the sentence fills in all at once in one go. All other applications seem fine, ie typing in Word isn't a prob, or internet etc. I have run a scan with my Norton, run Ad-Aware, I don't seem to have any gremlins. I have also done a defrag, under instruction from a friend. Don't know if it is connected, but for a few weeks I have also been getting a message about not enough virtual memory. Sorry if this is a simple question for those experts out there, but it is slowly driving me mad. Any suggestions please? I would add that I do spring clean all the time, don't keep loads of old files or emails etc. Thanks.

Thanks for that, vehelpfulguy. I've just seen on the net somewhere that if you run Windows XP and have Norton Security (which I do), then there is a recognised problem sometimes with virtual memory. Do you know anything about that, please?
