Hi Mr Ratter,
I posted this Q in technology but no answers and Im a desperate woman ! LOL!

My Windows Media Player has stopped burning CDs - it can play audio CDs fine etc but when it comes to copying to a CD it wont accept that I have placed a new CD-R inside the drive. I have checked it isnt the CD-R that is damaged as have tried several and the message I am getting is 'Insert blank CD-R into Drive E and retry' over and over again, I can hear it working but nothing is getting copied. Help....

Thanks in advance !

Oh just a thought I have Windows Media version 10 and have just had broadband installed (1MB) could this have affected it ?
Your broadband would not have affected it.

Are you sure you haven't altered the settings? Is the burn tab still set to 'audio cd'?

Have you got a duff batch of cds?

Try:

Start - my computer - view system information (in the left hand pane)

Now click the 'hardware' tab - and Device Manager

Double click on the cd drive

Does it say it is working properly? Click troubleshoot and see what happens.
Hi Roughquest, I think Ethel has already given you the best advice as usual.

Hi Ethel, I have done all that and its still not working...the device says its working properly....I have tried lots of CD-Rs in it all blank and all new, still no joy. I am at a loss.
Have you got a CDRW that has been used successfully but you can do without?

If so, try wiping that and burning to it - just to check you haven't got a batch of dud or incompatible disks.
well done ethel ! i never understand why people address questions for one individual only.

roughquest, are the different discs you are trying all of one brand ?
i had a very strange problem a couple of years ago where my tried and tested brand of cd's suddenly stopped working.i,like you, could not work out what the deuce was up until one day i just decided to try another brand and all was fine.my problem was simply that inexplicably one brand ceased to work with my pc.
To true, its a fact of pc life, some cd players just dont like certain brands. Mine have a infeariorty complex with memorex for some reason. Im told its to do with the laser & the reflective quality of the cd/dvd !.. ( Having said that though it does a have liking for the poundland cheapies ).
