hi peanuts , your suggestions worked, but this does not solve my problem with drop down on google search or ask.com . sorry I did not say this before.
download, install and run Crap Cleaner. It will take care of all of that. When you install crap cleaner, be sure to uncheck the option to install a yahoo toolbar. After installation, open it and click run cleaner. after thats done, click issues and scan for issues. when its done scanning, select all issues and select fix all selected issues. Let it create a backup when it asks you. You will find it easier to create a folder called CCleaner backup so you can easily restore if you have a problem.

Go to tools > Internet Options, then delete cookies, and delete files (incl offline files) as well as clearing history
Hi Bilko. I hope you don't mind me putting my oar in here but if you haven't sorted it, try this.

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options then click on Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History. Then click on the Content tab. Click Auto Complete, then Clear Forms, then Clear Passwords. This should work. If not, there is a good facility on the BBC web site, www.bbc.co.uk. When it comes up, you will see a large red and white "A". Click on this, and you will get the option to clear all browser tracks and history. If your already sorted, well done!
