triple screen probs

Hi my foreman recently retired and we gave him a compaq laptop. but now around 5 mnths on, when he starts up he gets a screen split into 3 horizontally. is this a graphics card prob. He had just gone on the net for the 1st time a few days before but is covered by norton etc. Would anyone have any suggestions please as to the possible cause. (I tried system restore, but no change).
