Monitor showing dark videos

after messing about with my nVidia settings (i know, i know!...) all videos now play really dark. This happens in various media players that i have tried. I have tried to restore the nvidia settings, which has improved the picture, but its still not as good as it was! the rest of my monitor displays everything correctly; its just videos. thanks in advance
