I'm sorry, but I am back asking for more advice.
I have successfully loaded some test photos onto my computer from my Panasonic camera using the Simple Viewer software that came with the camera. However I wanted to put my photos into 'My Pictures' . So I uninstalled Simple Viewer and asked the computer to fetch photos from the camera.
The computer doesn't recognise my camera, so I opened up 'scanners and cameras' to add it but Panasonic is not listed as an option.
Now what? do I ask the camera to pretend to be a Fuji or Epson etc? Or what?
Would really appreciate some guidance on
A) How to add the camera, or
B) How to transfer photos from Simple Viewer(I could reinstall it) to My Pictures.

Generally the best idea is perhaps to get an external multi-card reader, like this one:

Then you just take the card out of your camera (or anyone else's, maybe a friend's), and put it in that. It'll appear in My Computer as though you've just put in a CD or floppy -- just another drive really. You can then copy the pictures to wherever you want.
My suggestion is that the first thing you do is burn all the photos straight from the card to a CDR, so that they're safe. You're then free to play with them in some software application without risk of ruining the pictures and not being able to get the original back.

Thank you Kempie, I can access the photos that I have put into the Lumix Simple Viewer by clicking on DCIM ( which becomes 100 PANA) although I can as easily access them directly in Simple Viewer.
