Hi all - Just have to tell you that i am running a legit copy of Vista Ultimate. I have to say that i am very very impressed with it. All my software (iTunes, Norton IS, games) installed with no problems. And it seems faster! Anyone else running it and come across any software problems just so we all know?

There should be no real issues as most of the code is still the same from XP. If Microsoft can do their job properly, anyway.
Most of the code is the same as XP !!!!!

If that were the case why has it taken them 5 years to write it ?

I think a LOT of the code is different from XP.
As fo3nix says: most of the code is the same as XP. Most of the 5 years was spent dropping things from the original spec, and adding all those "Do you wish to continue?" pop-ups. The only real re-write is in the graphics engine.

That said, it refused to recognise my motherboard PCI bridge, Epson R200 printer, Epson 2480 photo scanner and Fritz ISDN terminal adaptor.

It wouldn't run Delphi 7, which hung it so badly, that the only recovery was by means of the mains switch (to be fair, it did warn me that Delphi was not compatible).

Lots of my trialware programs no longer recognized their licences.

On at least 5 occasions it booted to the login screen but showed no task bar or icons.

Still - all worth it, cos now I can see through the borders of the windows! (That's sarcasm, BTW).

Thank God that (a) MS supplied it to me for free, and (b) I installed it on a spare hard disk (which is now back in the cupboard)

Incidentally, I installed around about the 25th Jan and selected the Online option which ensures that you install the latest version, regardless of what's on the CD.

Since then I've received 11 updates (including a compatibility update fro about 30 or 40 programs). So, no change there, then...
When I ran the Vista compatibility check software on the Microsoft Site it reported that I will expect to get problems with Ghost 10, Nero7, Dragon Naturally Speaking V9 (although a 1GB free download will fix that if you have 2 hours or so to collect it), Snagit v 6, Smartboard XP, Poerquest Partition Magic 8, Tune Up utilities 2007 and Logitech Quick Cam Software v8. Acronis True Image Backup
As for Hardware. I can expect problems with My Epson Scanner 2480 and My HP Printer .

I think that is enough to deter me !
i would think it unlikely to be faster than a clean install of xp but percived or real who cares eh?
im am running x86 version and the Gigabyte Easy tune 5 software wont work but thats nothing that you can do better in Clockgen or Ntune.
F.E.A.R works fine... Phew!
pcmark05 ran for me for the first time in ages got a slower score with raid raptors than i did with just the one?
Glad to see not everyone is on a downer about Vista
