Excuse my ignorance!

I want to start a website of my own, somethign fairly simple where I can just put my CV and professional history and also some family pictures etc.

Can anyone tell me how to get started? I've got a btinternet account, I don't know if they do web-hosting?

Thanks!

Hi,
I don't have that much idea about the btinternet ,but as you said you want to make a website, you must first have a domain name.I will suggest you the site http://www.thewebpole.com/ .Where you can get you domain registered at low cost. And to make a website you can use the website builder which is provided by the same site.By using the website builder you can make a professional looking website. And by using the website builder you will get free hosting service and email and some more extras like stock images,Google Webmaster Tools, etc.
With free web hosting services you simply can't expect a best hosting experience, it solely give you initial hosting but don't provide security to your data as well as its speed won't satisfy you. It is wise to use cheap web hosting like poweruphosting service.

If you a newbie and want to start a website, then I would like to suggest you to opt for shared hosting once the visitors count increase on your website then upgrade the plan
