Just bought my son a laptop for xmas and it states that its got wireless LAN, does this mean he can access the web without it being plugged into a router/phone line or am I completely on the wrong track.
Can`t you tell technologies not my strong point :(

The laptop has the aerial (wifi enabled) to connect to a wireless signal.

You need a wireless router to transmit the signal.

If you have a wireless router, it will connect (after setting up) to the internet without being connected to the router by wire.

Thanks Ethel, I now know what it means. Not on wireless myself so I`ll have to make the connection via an ethernet connection.
