A friend if mine has a failing printer. Her PC does not have USB ports. I am advised that you can no longer buy printers with parallel ports. Is there any way you can connect a USB printer to her PC

Thankst

If the PC is so old that it does not have USB, I would be tempted to replace it!

Failing that, I would suspect that the best option would be to buy a second-hand printer with a parallel port input (should be peanuts!).

Google for 'usb to parallel port adaptors' and you'll get a few sites. Kelkoo lists a few adaptors.

Another alternative would be to install a usb card into the computer it only takes a min and is very cheap and easy to do. PC World have a stock of usb 1.1 cards that would do the trick.

You can still buy printers with parallel ports but not cheap home use ones these days, I would suggest that the best answer is to go with DiggerDo's suggestion and fit a USB card to the PC, this will also be useful if you want to connect a pen drive or a camera etc...
Note though that if it's old enough to not have USB ports, it may be running an operating system that doesn't support USB.

winXP, win2000 and winME all support USB. NT4 and below does not. 98SE does, but I don't think 95 does.
