Problems With Ee Tv Picture

For the last 2 weeks I have had problems with the EE TV reception. Picture has a lot of break up of the pixels. It is not all the time but varies from hour to hour. It happens randomly on different channels. I have tested the aerial with another TV and it works fine. Any idea what is causing the poor reception? I have tried rescanning but no better.

I'm puzzled: as far as I can tell, EE TV is delivered over broadband, in which case the aerial is completely redundant, and the problem would be with either your broadband connection or (if connected to your router via WiFi) your WiFi signal.
You've described the classic symptoms of poor signal strength, so it's undoubtedly an aerial (or 'aerial-related' problem).

The fact that another TV works fine doesn't prove anything. That's because different makes and models of TVs have
(a) different 'sensitivities' (i.e. their ability to handle weak signals); and
(b) different 'selectivities' (i.e. their ability to reject any interference).
So all you've proved so far is that (in terms of receiving weak signals, or of rejecting interfering ones) is that your 'spare' TV is far 'better' than your 'main' one.

The strengths of incoming TV signals at your aerial don't remain constant. They're affected by many things, such as the 12-year sunspot cycle, individual flares on the surface of the sun, weather, atmospheric pressure, buildings on the signal path being erected, buildings elsewhere being built (so that out-of-phase signals interfere with the wanted ones) and local interference. (Simply you or your neighbour installing a new printer, or your neighbour putting his new telly on the wall behind your own one, could be the cause of your problem).

So, after having checked that your aerial hasn't been knocked out of alignment by strong winds, what you need to do is to improve the signal strength arriving at your aerial. A tenner spent in a major supermarket should do the job:

(NB: You'll also need a fly lead, which is just a short piece of aerial cable with a plug at each end, to go between the signal booster and your telly. Some supermarkets sell them; otherwise many discount stores have them for a pound or two)

I wondered about that too, TC, but a look at the relevant page on the EE website shows that the box takes its Freeview channels in the conventional way, i.e. via an aerial:

Thanks for responses. I'm not very could with technical things so never thought about the link to the broadband. I think i may have to give EE a ring.
Looks to me as if the box has an aerial input for Freeview also. Additional channels are streamed over EE broadband.
'Pixelation' (rather than 'freezing') is a characteristic of poor terrestrial signal strength. (Broadband problems usually result in 'freezing').

If you're experiencing the problem on 'normal' channels (that anyone can get, with or without a broadband connection), such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4, Drama, Dave, etc, then it's DEFINITELY an aerial problem!
Chris, would what you describe is what’s wrong with my TVs in individual bedrooms. They are individually connected via coax from a booster box in the downstairs room. There are no breaks or connectors in the runs. At the moment I can get BBC 1 on one TV but not on the other. Then the channel availability might change being available on one and not on another. TIA

Strangely enough since BT changed to EE back in mid December we have been experiencing pixelating randomly on any of the HD channels. 

I done a wifi speed check and it was 40mbps so no problem with wifi. 

It just seems to have started since BT changed to EE which we had leaflets about prior to the change, they said we didn't need new equipment, we will still be using our BT router, and BT tv box, they said the software will update automatically which it did, the colour of the light on the front of the box changed from blue to green, and design of the channel guide had changed slightly, different size fonts etc. 

So is all this coincidence as we didn't have a problem before.
