Ubuntu 16.04 Installing A .pl File?

I have downloaded (setup_XYZ.tgz) and extracted this for a small "install.pl" file, with which I should install the complete packet via online.
I have no experience with command-line starting of a .pl file.
Having tried "sudo apt-get install.pl" and "perl install.pl", with and without the home directory (/), I am at a loss.
Can anybody please advise how this particular file is executed?
