I Have Another Pigeon Story.

Two weeks ago we found a very young feral dove in the garden. It was all beak and was very scrawny and thin. It had fallen from the roof and was unable to fly back. It could only fly for about two feet before landing on the ground again.

We picked it up and put it in a pet carrier, gave it food and water and put it in to garage. Each day, we have taken it outside, opened the cage and watched what happened. Three days ago, it started to take itself back into the carrier and seemed perfectly happy to be there.

Today, we let it out, it wandered around a bit, went back in the carrier, came out and took off.........up onto the garage roof and five minutes later up onto the house roof! Hooray. No more worrying about the pigeon/dove.

Yes well my pigeon story involves a pigeon's nest, a ladder, a wisteria and two hooligan cats......

Well it mainly involves me standing up the ladder and saying to either one of the hooligans "please come down, mummy will give you biscuits" in order to save the poor little squabs from them. The neighbours think I am mad. I want to chop the bloody wisteria down. So far Pigeons 2 Cats 0.

Are the pigeons nesting in the wisteria, Barmaid? If so, you can't cut it down. You'll just have to keep going up that ladder. :-)

I am not sure whether they are in the wisteria or in the guttering in the gulley on the top floor. Either way Mr BM likes his wisteria and wouldnt let me cut it down anyway. I am just peed off with dragging cats out of it.

Although the cats are a bit thick. I let them get as far as the first floor and then shake the biscuits through the open window - they come in for biscuits and forget why they were climbing up there in the first place. I'll be glad when the pigeons bog off, they are making a terrible mess over my car.

In my experience, Barmaid, the pigeons don't bog off. They hang around and suddenly you have more pigeons!

This is the only nice pigeon story I have , Mikey. The other stories did not end well.

Well one nice pigeon story is better than no nice pigeon stories, Tilly.

I am sure the people just up the road who thought they would get a dove cote and white doves thought it was a lovely idea - until they were inundated with feral pigeons.

That's where our doves are from, Barmaid.

Someone round the corner had doves and when they sold the house, the new residents sawed down the dove cote. All the doves were homeless and they now live under our solar panels!

Tilly I'm so pleased you are considerate towards the pigeons/doves. They need our protection and people like you who don't think they are 'flying rats' are few and far between. Thank you for caring for these animals...it's what is needed today so thank you.
