Is this a wireless mouse?
It will work with any keyboard
Mice and keyboards don't tend to interconnect.
My wife and I both have one for our laptops. There is a small dongle which goes into any USB socket on your computer; the driver will install automatically and you're in business.

It is a wireless mouse, current keyboard is a Microsoft model but it is not functioning with the new mouse. I never thought that mouse and keyboard would come as a pair.
My M185 works with my Dell laptop - you have the mini dongle inserted, yes?
The wireless mouse should have come with a usb that you'll need to plug into your computer before the mouse can work
If you are using it with a desktop computer, make sure the dongle is in range of the mouse.

If you go into Control Panel > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices, you will be able to check that the computer can see it.

I have plugged the dongle into the PC. The mouse scrolls ok but the keyboard does not respond i.e. no characters appear. The mouse will not delete e-mails either.
Is your keyboard wireless? Is the dongle for that connected properly?
Question Author
The keyboard is wireless. There is only one dongle connected on the PC - unless I have missed it.
One can have a situation where both the keyboard and the mouse can connect to the same dongle. I have a Logitech solar keyboard and Logitech trackball and both came with their own dongle. But it said I could run off the one so that's what I do. It's the dongle that can cope with multiple wireless connections regardless which they are.

Thanks a lot folks. Nothing has changed but I will keep going back and swapping and changing until I make progress. Ta again.
Silly question, but have you put a battery in the mouse?
..... or battery in keyboard?
If your keyboard is wireless as well as the mouse and they are different makes wouldn't you need two dongles! You have said there is only one dongle connected!
