Laptop...battery Or Mains?

Would it be better for me to take the battery out of the laptop I have rather than keeping it in and running it off of the electricity? Have done this since new but would it lose anything by removing the battery and just plugging it into the mains? Win 7 IE whatever it is.... Hardly use it now but I never use it on it's own battery.

Thanks for any replies.

I keep mine in, you never know when you might want to take it somewhere. Running it off the mains keeps the internal battery charged up.
Just unplug the mains once in a while and run the battery down a little. Don't take the battery out, some BIOS can get confused and throw up errors, besides if there's a power cut or glitch, you can keep working.
Mine is plugged in 24/7 but occasionally I use it in the garden with a beer, like now, running on the battery. This battery is over 6 years old and is working fine.
Charge battery when laptop switched off....quicker that way. Once charged, unplug from mains.

Thanks for your helpful answers. I did wonder if things might go haywire a little by taking the battery out permanently and of course there is the case of needing to use it when no electricity. I really only thought about it because the darn thing is SO heavy it's a weight on my lap even on a tray with a cushion! Methyl ...make n model is HP G 72 and more a desk-top laptop with the size and weight of it. :-/
