Whenever I click on a topic several tabs open up. I would single-click the mouse only once but yet two or sometimes three tabs opens. Also, if a tab is opened with a topic and then I open another tab, the previous tab changes to the topic/tab I've just opened. It happens with any mouse I plug in to the laptop. I am using Windows XP Pro.

Another thing that's happening - I click on a letter and the word gets highlighted or sometimes the whole paragraph.

I've never had these problems before. Why is this happening, and how can I solve this?

Thanks in advance for looking at my question, and for replying.

Chrissa, thanks for the quick response and for the link.

I've also tried Tilly's suggestion several times but it didn't work. I even got two new mice, two different makes but no change.

I even played around with the mouse set-up in control panel but no gain. I don't know...
Sorry about that, society. Hope you get it fixed, somehow.

Methyl, thanks for your help.

"In particular it will cause clicked topic links to open in a new instance of the browser - or a new tab if you have tabbed browsing enabled. " - This exactly what's happening.

Browser is Firefox 27.0.1

All the keys are at the same level, none look stuck. How do I unstuck a key? Do I just gently pull it up?
A program that seems to have helped for the last couple of months since I first had this problem is MouseFix http://pupuweb.com/optical-mouse-single-click-problem-solved/ but it might only be a stopgap solution because my mouse has started playing up again during the last couple of days.

Thanks Biblebub. I'll have a look at that.
