Microsoft Fix It 50123

Hi, I'm running Microsoft Fix it 50123 to try and troubleshoot problems installing updates. How long should it take ? It has been running for 24hrs and I still get message, if I try' cancel', that the Fix it is not yet complete. Seems along time to me. Should I cancel or not ?

Sorry I forgot to add using W7 Starter on Asus netbook
I think you may have downloaded a 'dodgy product'. You are Not alone with the problem. Keep an eye on this question in the Microsoft Community site. :-

I cant find Microsoft Fix it 50123, it does not seem to be on the Microsoft web site.

Where did you download it from?

I did a search on it and found it at a few dodgy (non Microsoft) web sites.

It may be that Microsoft removed it for some reason, bu these other dodgy sites still have it.

p.s. It should not take 24 hours, most of these things take seconds to run.
Nothing ever takes than long. It's stopped and doesn't realise. In your shoes I'd reboot and keep my fingers crossed. Should be ok.

Thanks Alex, Looks like Microsoft has a lot to answer for with this batch of 'dodgy updates' The question in the MS Community is mine , but I have had no replies yet. I am trying a restart on my netbook but the system is having trouble closing the' Fix it' program, to enable restart. One more problem to have to sort out, may be I'll have to power off manually to try and clear it. Any ideas much appreciated, G

VHG, the Fix it program started from Microsoft Help and Support page so it must be a MS one. O-G as I replied to Alex-H restart is stuck so I'll have to power off and reboot as you suggest and hope for the best.I'll come back on this, G
Personally, I would completely clear-out 50123 (if that is possible) and then consider troubleshooting with the following :-

Hi,all, the plot thickens,did manual reboot,all seemed ok , then I went to Chrome which loaded alright. After say 5 mins. Chrome (Not responding) restart not working. Did another manually and did a system restore to 2 days ago. Seemed ok after that for a while. Rebooted and tried to open IE,bit slow but it did open as IE10, which is very strange as I was using IE8, now that is Not responding.Tried the link to MS support/fixit and microsoft.com is not responding !!!!. Looks like I will have to get someone savvy to do an F9 Recovery as suggested in the netbook manual. Trouble is the nearest chap is 2 hours drive away so if anyone can come up with a 'fix' I would appreciate it. G

Just looked at trying a system restore further back, but have now lost system restore C:\windows\system32\rstui.exe File system error(-1073741502), Hey-ho!
Looks like it's got itself into a bit of a pickle.
Just about all the stuff I have read about the 'Dicky Updates' advise against a system restore but what's done is done.
I'm guessing that you're posting from a different computer.
What is the model of the Asus Netbook?

BE WARNED It will erase all data from the computer.
Before you do, just check to see if it has lost it's network driver. When you say 'Not Responding' is it connecting to any websites at all?

Thanks , methyl, I've only added Chrome,Avast,Malwarebites and transfered a few photos into my pictures so nothing that can't be reloaded.Have had problems since new, (10 weeks ago) the update fiasco is just the last thing I wanted. Would you suggest that I get the netbook 'recovered' using the recovery partition (F9 Recovery).? With regard to System restore, I thought the whole idea of system restore was to go back to an earlier state and all changes after that date were removed. Obviously not. G
Puzzled. I would do the 'recovery' thing if it was me, but hear what Methyl or VHG has to say.

Asus has sent instructions on how to recover the system. I'll take it 'to the man' next week and hope it works.

Sorry,methyl, just to clarify, netbook- Asus X101CH , I've added an 8GB SD card set to 'ready boost' Mem. Increase 4GB. Seems to be sorting itself out,still have trouble with the .NET updates, they will not install and freeze the PC forcing manual shutdown. Should I 'hide' those two ? Still having problems with 'Shut Down' sometimes it will and others it sticks on 'Logging off' or' Shutting down' Hopefully the recovery will clear all this. Once again , thank you for your help, G
