Running on XP on a pretty old PC, I've always used Word 2002, but I've been thinking of installing a more up-to-date edition, so a couple of questions:

Which is the most recent version of Word that will run on XP?
Is it really worth installing a newer release? Are there enough significant/useful differences between, say, 2002 and 2007 to justify the outlay?

TIA

Depends how many features of Word you use.

If you use just the basic features of Word then no point in buying a new one.

I think the average "home" user only uses about 5% of the function in Word (that 5% is a guess but it is probably around that figure).

Thanks VHG.
Yeah, it's true to say I've only ever used it for basic stuff. However, I am interested to know if newer versions had much capability as regards web page design? I've always used FrontPage - defunct, of course, but at least webhosts still take FP extensions. Its only problems are very messy code and unsophisticated facilities for media content.
Since Microsoft abandoned FP did they do anything to make newer versions of Word web design friendly?
Microsoft replaced Front Page with Expression Web (very similar but can produce standard code where FP did not).

You can download Expression Web for free here

http://www.microsoft.com/expression/eng/

Seems they have now decided to change their web design products yet again so are giving away Expression Web for free.

You can read more on that page I linked to above.

Thanks again.
Downloaded Expression Web but needed the Net Framework (or whatever it's called) to allow installation. Sadly my stupid computer refuses to install that!
