On Firefox start-up I frequently get this label appearing :

'Cannot create shell notification icon .'

What does it mean, and is it anything to worry about ?

Cheers.

I can't think why this works but a web search suggests it (and it can't harm your computer), so it might be worth a try:

Go to Start > Run
Type 'msconfig'
Click OK
Click the Startup tab
Click OK
Accept the option to restart your computer.

Thank again Chris, but the 'run' option doesn't recognise msconfig so I can't progress to 'ok' on your list.

I'm running Windows XP, by the way.

msconfig is a standard command in XP I use it frequently. (Twice today, in fact). If it's not working, it looks like there's some malware on your computer. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware:

Thanks, Chris. I have the latest version of Malwarebytes.

Label not appearing now, but 'Run' still brings up the message that Windows does not recognise msconfig. However, when I put it in 'Search' it comes up with three avenues :

Ooops !!

..... four avenues: C drive. Windows help.
" " " prefetch.
" " " pc health/ health ctr.
" " " service pack files

But I don't want to mess with the last three.
