Mac Mini Running Slow

My Mac mini has decided to go on a go slow. No matter what I am doing, closing an application or scrolling down a page it usually invokes the multi coloured disc.
I've got 188GB of hard disc space and 2 GB of SDRAM.
Any suggestions of why it's running slow.

Run activity monitor from the utilities folder in applications and look for anything hogging CPU, if nothing obvious do a reboot and see if it's improved. If still bad run disk utility and repair disk permissions, repair disk as well.
