I think many people from the early 1900s had similar thoughts"
i love that and
"If I were there, I would fill up a sandwich bag really quickly and seal it (so water can't get in). This way I would have a floatation device if I fell into the water, and when I get rescued, I would have a tasty snack!! Now that's creative thinking!"
i of course would be in the bar

Mosaic ... it was a hundred years ago !! And look, it's possible to find that ANYTHING is inappropriate ... "if you really want to ..."
eg. With so many old people this year dying because of the cold, is it really appropriate to celebrate snow just because it "makes everything look nice"?
http://www.theanswerb.../Question1085776.html
Cold weather is a killer! Snowy weather doesn't make things look nice. Snowy weather traps the elderly in their houses. It breaks their bones when they slip over. It kills them when they freeze to death. It stops ambulances getting to them. Sadly, the freezing old people can't "have their say" because they don't have computers to come on AB.
I'm not having a dig, Mosaic, because I really like your posts ... I'm trying to illustrate that almost any thread could be called inappropriate if you analysed it deeply enough.
eg. (2) The current sticky is about the availability of petrol. The world is full of people who are starving, even as we type. They have probably never even seen a car, except the ones that come to take away their dead children. And we are worried because we can't fill the fuel tanks on our nice cars ?????? How inappropriate can you get !!??
See what I mean?
Just a thought.
Anyway, my other thought, from a physiological point of view, was ... the more you eat, the better your chances of survival in cold water ... so you'd be well advised to eat all the carbs you could.
Incidentally ... when the White Star Line launched The Olympic, having taken it into dry dock (after it's accident at sea), and swapped the badges with the Titanic (so the "Titanic" was actually the previously damaged Olympic), it was only bad luck that The Californian (which the White Star Line had sent into the North Atlantic to rescue the passengers from the "Titanic" when it sank, because they knew it was unseaworthy and was not going to complete its "maiden voyage") was not a bit closer when the "Titanic" sank. Happily, it arrived in time to save quite a lot of the passengers because it "just happened" to be sailing across the Atlantic (with no cargo or passengers!!!) at the time. If it happened nowadays, everyone would be able to see the Californian hanging around there, and they'd go ... "What's that empty ship doing, hanging around near the "Titanic"? It's almost as if the shipping line know that the Titanic isn't seaworthy!" "Hello, I'm a liitle Irish guy who worked for Harland and Wolf at the time, and I was involved in switching the identities of the Olympic and the Titanic." "No you're not. Shut up you mad old man. You're really old. You should be dead. Ignore him, everyone." "Yay, he's died. Can someone please destroy the recording of him claiming he know about the Olympic/Titanic switch."
Okay, please do not watch this video. Seriously ... please don't.

I doubt it, Mosaic.
I think the really detailed threads are by the clever people in "Science" ... not by airheads like me, LOL.
Well, it's okay if we disagree. That's partly what chat sections are all about.

rowan ... or things like the Titanic had the wrong number of foreward portholes ... 12 on it's building design, but 14 on the photos of its launch. The Olympic, on the other hand, was designed with 14 foreward portholes. And with unevenly spaced main deck windows. Unlike the Titanic, which had evenly spaced windows. Except in the photos of the Titanic's launch, when they had mysteriously all moved and become unevenly spaced.
