I have an american laptop so where the pound symbol is I have a doller symbol.  Can I change the key format at all?  I have managed to use a shortcut key feature which is ok for word documents but, just for example, if I were to type here I could not use a pound symbol as I do not have access to the "symbols" feature you have in Microsft Word.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Don't know your keyboard but I have a Spanish one and to get the pound sign I have to use (in assessories in Windows) alt +0163 but you may be different.
You should be able to go into control panal and change the language or just in microsoft word go to spelling and languae and change that too

Change your Windows settings. Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language options. Select UK for all tabs, and make sure the currency setting is correct.

Then go to the keyboard option and make sure you have a UK keyboard selected. If it's not available you can add it, but you will need your operating system CDs to do this.

The double quotes and hash key are in reverse positions when you swap UK/US keyboards but otherwise most things will work OK.
