maybe you've got them set to vanish after three days? Maybe you've enabled something that clears your history every time you log off?
Or maybe someone used your PC and then decided to cover their tracks by deleting the history

I have been away and this has only happened since I came home last Wed.
So no one could have done anything to the settings etc.
Looked at Windows Help and Support as how to turn off my InPrivate Browing which I find is switched on ..but cannot find where it tells one to do it.

I am running IE9..and hate it!

Tearing my hair out here..I use my history a lot.
Get Firefox, it's easier and better.
Or chrome...
See our answers on your othe rthread. I think the cause may be that have accidentally ticked teh "delete browsing history on exit" box in the Browsng History part of Tools> internet options.
I'm on IE9 and when I look at the InPrivate Browsing option it says I can turn it off just by closing this browser indow. It works for me
I'm just giving IE9 a whirl, but haven't heard any good things about it........
Agree with factor, by default the InPrivate Browsing is turned on, which deletes your history on exit, just follow his advice..It works!

Factor30...found that and did it but still no History!!!!!!

I followed this from Windows Support but where it says "click off",I have nowhere to do that, nothing at all like it says!!!!!?????
*******************************

Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Safety button, and then click InPrivate Filtering Settings.

Do one of the following:

To automatically block websites, click Automatically block.

To manually block websites, click Choose content to block or allow.

To turn off InPrivate Filtering, click Off.
***********************************

So where do I go from here???????
When mineis on Iget a tab saying "InPrivate InternetE". I can then simply close the tab by clicking on the x in the top
Question Author
Oh Lord,I don`t get that either!!!!!
When I go "Safety" click on that...then click InPrivate Browsing..a window opens saying that it is on and to close down the browser to turn it off...did that but STILL no history.
I am now on my laptop which is XP and everything is just as Windows Support explained on my Windows 7( desktop)where I am having the problem.

Just do not understand why????Hate Windows 7 too!!!!
... I think it asks you to close down "this browser window", i.e. the one for InPrivate, not close down your IE browser altogether as that would stlll leave InPrivate in place when you go back into IE9
Question Author
Yes,I closed just that window.,,only the one that had come up on clicking on the InPrivate Browsing.
Also the box by "delete history on exit" is unchecked,so it is not that either...grrrr!!!
... Have you tried switching it off, unplugging it and then restarting!
Question Author
Yeeeessss....
I don't understand why InPrivacy can't be switched off, but have you tried this- go into Tools>Internet options and thenin the Browsing History bit click on settings. There's then a boit that asks how many days history you want to keep. What is this set to?
Question Author
75 days....Just took a look now at desktop...my son is now on it and it appears to be OK now...fingers crossed.
If it is not...I`ll be back!!!!

Many thanks for your persistance in your help.Have a nice weekend..
Question Author
I am back...it is not fixed..in fact, none of the history is showing now.
Just found out why I can`t turn off the InPrivate Browsing..when I open "Security",I do not get "InPrivate Filtering" or "InPrivate Filtering Settings".Instead I get "Tracking Protection" and "ActiveX Filtering"
Question Author
Sorry, accidently posted the post before finished.....
Why are they not showing up on this desktop PC which is Windows 7 whereas my laptop Is XP.
I also have IE9 on this desktop ...didn`t want it, but it downloaded automatically with a Windows update

So what can I go now...I cannot understand how this has happened at all..my history saved until last Thursday...no one used the PC except my son and I and he does not mess around with any settings (he is a grown up)..but is not very computer literate.

Really fed-up now!!!!!!!
