Changing Colour in Photoshop

I have an image which is a line drawing in black on white and I would like to change the black line to red. Is there a simple way to do this please?

normally you can do this in 'adjust colour balance'
or replace colour

however it wont work unless your image is RGB or CMYK format.. not grayscale
