My PC hangs at the "Windows is shutting down" screen and I have to shut it down by holding the power on switch for 6 seconds, EVERY TIME I try to shut down. Any advice or ideas on where to get a patch to rectify this?

If it's windows 98 there is a patch which sorts it on their website.
Ctrl+alt+del ONCE will bring up the close programme box - try closing each in turn when u r about to finish a session - leave systray & explorer until last & this should show you if any programmes are 'hanging'
