Watching the lunchtime weather forecast I noticed a caption referring to "The Men's Ashes".

Surely it's just "The Ashes" as it ever was and the gals can ad wimmins or ladies, whatever, to the front of the competition title if they must.

Is that the boring game that's like Rounders?
No, you're thinking of Baseball
It avoids confusion between the two series.
I should get over it if I were you
I think there should be a competition to suggest something that the ladies should burn and place the ashes of in a little urn, so that they can legitimately call their series "The Ashes", because at the moment they are just piggy-backing on the traditions and heritage of the mens series.

Having said that it was a cracking series that the women recently played!
I sort of agree with you, douglas. My native language is English, not British English.
All other varieties have the country indicator such as American/US English.
The Men's (or Women's) Ashes sounds like someone has been scrounging from the local crematorium.

I'll take your comment as being out of your comfort zone, ichkeria. x
Maybe I’m biased because I have cousins who played for Ireland women :-)
But I’m not sure a single caption - or indeed any caption - differentiating between two “Ashes” series means that for ever more the “Ashes” is always going to be called the Men’s Ashes.
And even if it was there are surely worse things to have happened at sea
