I desperately want to move, I've no support anywhere. Should I apply for jobs first or what should be my first course of action? I saw a house go up for sale today and it got me thinking how life truly is short and I don't want to end up living where I do for the rest of my days.

Your first move should be to apply for a job. There's little point in moving first, because you have to live, you have to have money coming in. Get a job first, and then think about moving to live near your new job.

What sort of support do you need or want?

why would it be different for a single lady than a single gentleman?
I thought you were happy living with your mum.

Whether to buy first depends on your personal finances. Can you afford to move into a house and support yourself until you get a job? If not, get a job and rent until you can afford to buy a house.
First thing I would say is - decide where you would be happiest living, big city, country, coastal, north or south. Narrow down your choices & look what's available accommodation & jobwise.
If you are on you own, factor in more than just a job when choosing a location, look out for somewhere that has some good groups/clubs for things you are interested in - or you'd like to get interested in.. Walking groups, book club, badminton, whatever it is. You'll meet new local people and will give options for things to do.
