I’m was in credit to the tune of £274 with EON but decided to switch to a company called igloo when my fixed term was up on the 16th September, my DDs come out on the 1st of each month so another £100 will go into EONs coffers whilst we await them refunding our credit, this is a mini rant so I’m putting it in CB, hope that’s okay?

cancel the DD at your bank immediately
Question Author
They say not to till the refund goes in but I’m going to anyway Minty as the other company I’ve gone with will be taking their payment out as well
they can still pay in surely ?
Sure Bobbi rant away. I know it is frustrating waiting for refund. But they will prefer your money in their bank earning interest. Depending on what eons T & Cs say re closing accounts, your last port of call will be 0fgem.
Question Author
On their website they ‘advise’ to leave the DD open for any refunds which , they say can take up to 10 days ,well those 10 days were up last Thursday, I’d ring them but they are Mon-Fri
Question Author
Not sure why there’s a was in my OP, iPad does as it likes :0/
ok you could leave DD open if that is their request to refund monies, dont give them an excuse to not refund. Ring your bank and revise DD amount to £1, or do it yourself if you have online banking.
Question Author
Now that’s a good idea, thanks Tony I’ll do that as I do online banking
Good Bobbi at least you will limit the amount of any further amount taken. I am really happy with my online banking, have nipped two scams in the bud on Jens account, just a Monday morning routine to see whats been happening in both of our accounts

I’ve used O.L.B for years now Tony, most local branches have closed or are unmanned now that banking online is so much easier
Our local branch closed which prompted me to sign up. The Bank did lots of leaflet drops with reasons, online, telephone and lack of footfall where main ones. Difficult to pay cash / cheque into account online. I never went into branch and not have to queue. I have now opened a post office account for cash & cheques.

I can’t remember the last time I used a cheque book Tony, in fact, I’m not sure where mine is even
I've got one if ever I need it, just checked last one was written over 9 years ago, I still receive the odd cheque but getting rarer but need an account more for cash and post office is handy for me 5 mins walk, all be it now located in the local co op but that is no problem.
you cant revise a dd yourself can you? you can chose the amount on a SO, but not DD
Question Author
You’re right bednobs, I did try but you’ve to go via the company so it’s phone call at 9am tomorrow
I don't think they will be earning much interest on unreturned credit balances. More likely just slack admin & low priority.

And yes - with a DD in place they can take whatever they want. If it's incorrect the DD guarantee come into force. They may not take any money on the 1st even if the refund comes later.
Question Author
Thanks all, I’ll make that call in the morning tho
I’m with SSE and I can change my payment amounts online and last week, without me asking for it, they refunded me over £100 credit that I had.
Question Author
Is that a SO Sherr ?
Hi Bobbi, I’ve just checked my bank account and it’s by direct debit.
